"La Grotta" is a spacious vacation villa available to be rented entirely or individually since it is composed of 5 bright apartments set in a splendid corner of Tuscany.
The vacation villa "La Grotta", dating back to 1400, has been completely renovated in order to preserve the original style and structure. It houses large groups (up to 18 sleeping areas), offering you the opportunity to arrange dinners on request in the splendid rooms below. A splendid swimming pool is also available to vacationers.
As an alternative, the farmhouse located in Montecastelli Pisano in via Bucignana is divided into 5 independent apartments (Farfalla, Coccinella, Libellula, Bruco and Ape), two of which have a separate entrance. Each has a well-equipped kitchenette, land and satellite TV, heating, access to public transportation, private parking and a swimming pool reserved for all the vacationers.
Montecastelli Pisano is of Longobardian origins and constituted an important site for warning and defense on the mining road that crossed from north to south of the Metallifere Hills. But the site was occupied as early as the Etruscan era, as evidenced by some tombs of the Villanovian era (7th century B.C.) where the first Christians practiced their worship in the time of the Arian persecution.
Around the 11th century, the village was fortified and divided among the families of the counts Aldobrandeschi and the Pannocchieschi. The titles of Saints James and Phillip were moved to the church from a nearby castle, Bucignano. A bishop's fief, long contested by Volterra and Florence, finally a free community, found itself at the center of fierce battles for possession of the copper and silver mines. Its community by-laws of 1427 are quite significant and original. The village church, which holds a lovely painting by Cosimo Daddi, is a pure architectural example of Romanesque style and with the Pannocchieschi Tower comprises an attractive collection of great importance.
